Romano Dal Forno Profile
Romano Dal Forno, located in the heart of Valpolicella in northeastern Italy, is one of the most revered producers of Amarone della Valpolicella. Since its founding in 1983, the estate has been synonymous with uncompromising quality, innovation, and a modern take on this iconic wine style. Romano Dal Forno and his family have redefined Amarone production by focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard practices, and advanced winemaking techniques. Their flagship wine, Amarone Monte Lodoletta, is crafted from carefully selected Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta, and Croatina grapes, which undergo an extended drying process (appassimento) to concentrate flavors and aromas. Known for its extraordinary richness, depth, and longevity, Dal Forno’s wines are celebrated as some of the most powerful and refined expressions of Amarone.

2017 Romano Dal Forno Amarone Monte Lodoletta Tasting Note

The 2017 Amarone Monte Lodoletta is a masterpiece of intensity, precision, and elegance. The nose is immensely complex, offering an opulent bouquet of black cherries, dried plums, and blackberries, layered with notes of dark chocolate, espresso, licorice, and sweet tobacco. Subtle hints of dried roses, leather, and baking spices add to its aromatic depth. On the palate, it is full-bodied and velvety, with firm yet refined tannins and a core of luscious dark fruit that’s perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity. Flavors of fig jam, blackcurrant, and molasses are complemented by touches of graphite, balsamic, and toasted oak. The finish is remarkably long and harmonious, leaving an impression of power, sophistication, and impeccable craftsmanship. While approachable now with proper decanting, this vintage has the structure to evolve beautifully for 20–30 years, revealing even greater nuance and complexity over time.
