Bruno Giacosa Winery Profile

The Bruno Giacosa winery, based in the Piedmont region of Italy, is a legendary name in the world of fine wine, particularly for its Barolo and Barbaresco. Founded by Bruno Giacosa in 1961, the estate is renowned for its meticulous attention to detail and dedication to producing wines that capture the essence of the Langhe’s finest terroirs. Giacosa's philosophy emphasized minimal intervention in the cellar and respect for the unique characteristics of each vineyard site. The estate produces both traditional and single-vineyard wines, most famously from prized crus like Falletto and Asili. Bruno Giacosa’s passing in 2018 marked the end of an era, but his legacy continues under the direction of his daughter, Bruna, who remains committed to upholding the family's exacting standards. Giacosa wines are celebrated for their power, elegance, and remarkable aging potential, often considered benchmarks of Piedmontese winemaking.

2017 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto Tasting Note

The 2017 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto is a beautifully crafted wine that balances the richness of the vintage with the finesse that defines this historic estate. The nose is captivating, revealing a complex bouquet of ripe red cherries, wild strawberries, and dried roses, intertwined with notes of licorice, tobacco, tar, and a hint of sweet spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and deeply textured, with firm but refined tannins providing structure and elegance. Layers of red and dark fruit are complemented by earthy undertones, subtle balsamic nuances, and a whisper of leather. Vibrant acidity lends freshness and lift, leading to a long, harmonious finish marked by minerality and lingering floral notes. While approachable with decanting, the 2017 Barolo Falletto will benefit from 5–7 years of cellaring and has the potential to evolve gracefully for 20–25 years.
