Château Pétrus Profile
Château Pétrus, situated in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux, is one of the most iconic and sought-after wines in the world. Unlike many of Bordeaux’s grand estates, Pétrus is relatively small, encompassing just 11.4 hectares of vineyard planted almost exclusively with Merlot. The estate owes its unparalleled quality to its unique terroir, particularly its rare blue clay subsoil, which retains water and provides ideal conditions for Merlot to thrive. Owned by the Mouëx family since 1945, Pétrus has become synonymous with elegance, opulence, and unmatched precision. While it lacks official classification, Pétrus is regarded as a "super-first" wine, consistently ranking alongside the most revered wines globally. Its wines are known for their extraordinary concentration, silky texture, and ability to age for decades.2010 Château Pétrus Tasting Note
The 2010 Château Pétrus is a monumental vintage that exemplifies the estate’s legendary status. The nose is incredibly expressive, with profound aromas of ripe blackberries, black cherries, and plums, layered with notes of truffle, violets, mocha, and hints of fresh tobacco. Subtle nuances of graphite, crushed stone, and exotic spices emerge as it opens in the glass. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and flawlessly structured, with a velvety, almost weightless texture that carries immense power and precision. The concentrated core of dark fruit is complemented by flavors of dark chocolate, licorice, and a touch of espresso. Vibrant acidity and finely integrated tannins create remarkable balance, while the finish is astoundingly long, leaving a lingering impression of richness and minerality. Still youthful, the 2010 Pétrus promises decades of evolution, with its peak likely spanning 2030–2060 and beyond.
