A Brief History of Port Wine:
Port wine, a hallmark of Portuguese winemaking, originates from the Douro Valley. Its rise began in the 17th century when English merchants fortified Portuguese wines with brandy to stabilize them for export. Over time, port evolved into a distinctive wine style, characterized by its sweet richness and depth of flavor. Today, the production of port is strictly regulated to preserve its authenticity, with its reputation upheld by iconic producers like Quinta do Noval.

Tasting Note for Quinta do Noval 1985 Vintage Port:
The Quinta do Noval 1985 Vintage Port is a magnificent wine from an outstanding vintage. Deep ruby with a slight brick-colored rim, it reveals an intoxicating bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry jam, and dried cherry, layered with notes of violets, licorice, and subtle earthy undertones. On the palate, it is full-bodied and velvety, with an intense core of ripe dark fruits, dark chocolate, and spice, framed by well-integrated tannins and a refreshing acidity. The finish is long and resonant, with lingering hints of dried fig, black pepper, and a touch of espresso. Drinking beautifully now but capable of evolving further with cellaring.
