Valentine’s Day; A Day to Indulge.

Updated: Feb 3, 2021

Valentine's Day: a day for indulging, is just around the corner.

The time of year when those of us who are in love get to spoil our cherished other half and remind them of just how much we love them. In our opinion, there is no better way to do so than with a delicious home-cooked meal for two and a special bottle of Valentine’s Day wine.

So with this in mind, we have selected a few exquisite bottles of wine that embody Valentine’s Day however you might be celebrating…

One for the ‘Date Night’...

Les Yeuses - 'Oliviers' - £15.99

Sud de France - Top 100 wines award winner.

This indulgent award-winning wine offers a bountiful nose of winter spices, paprika and generous fruit. The perfect winter fireside red.

To be enjoyed with Lamb Stew or Beef dishes or of course, by the fire with a good book or film.

One for the romantic...

Digby Leander Pink NV Brut - £31.99

Digby Leander Pink Rosé NV English Sparkling Wine 75cl is jubilant yet gracious. Digby’s Leander Pink is the official sparkling wine of world-renowned Leander Club. With an elegant pink hue, this fizz celebrates England’s most vibrant Pinot Noir with rich, aged Chardonnay and ethereal Pinot Meunier.

The Leander Pink also boats impressive awards with “Best in Class” and “World Champion England” at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships on release, and now a Gold Medal from the International Wine Challenge 2019, the joint-highest score awarded to a non-vintage English Sparkling. It is perfect for Valentines.

One for the secret admirer…

Fernand Girard Sancerre - £17.99

A classic example of this world-famous wine from a family-owned and family-run winery. Fernand and Monique Girard, ably assisted by their son Alain, lovingly tend to 12 hectares of vines and only use the very best parcels of grapes for their own wines. They are no strangers to winemaking in this region, they come from several generations of winemakers in the tiny village of Chaudoux, located a few miles northwest of the town of Sancerre and directly north of Chavignol (world-famous for goats cheese and a perfect food pairing for Sancerre).

A state of the art cellar with all of the best modern technology combined with traditional viticultural practices and minimum intervention in the vineyard and cellar results in a beautifully crafted wine.

Vibrant, citrus fruit with hints of gooseberry and elderflower and a bright minerality. Light and refreshing with juicy fruit and a long finish.

One for a special proposal...

Gosset Grande Réserve Brut Champagne - £46.99

Often referred to as a "mini-Krug", founded in 1584, Gosset is the oldest sparkling wine house in Champagne. Still fiercely independent the quality of their wines is still among the very best of the Grandes Marques and very much among our favourites. Rich and robust champagnes, made using a large percentage of older reserve wines, the top wines having been partially fermented in oak barrels.

Tasting Note: The tiny bubbles and biscuity aroma of this wonderfully smooth Champagne make it iconic. It has a beautiful light gold colour, sweet aromas of nuts and pears and a remarkable finish.

How could anyone say no?
